Governance

Waiheke Community Housing Trust is a registered charity (Charities Services number CC55208), governed by a Board of Trustees under a Trust Deed. We are a local community organisation. We are not a government agency, and we are independent of any commercial property manager or developer.

Our purpose

The objects of the Trust are set out in clause 3 of our Trust Deed. In summary, we exist to relieve poverty and housing stress on Waiheke Island through social housing and affordable rental housing; to increase the supply of that housing through development; to promote sustainable, energy efficient housing; to work with government, local authorities and other agencies; and to design and manage programmes that help low income households into housing.

Our Trustees

The Trust is governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees. Trustees are not paid for their governance work.

Management

Day to day operations are led by the General Manager, Damian Sycamore, who reports to the Board. A Housing Coordinator supports property management and tenancy work.

How we operate

Our Operational Policy Framework sets out how the Trust works day to day: how tenants are selected, how rent is set, how Healthy Homes assessments, inspections and arrears are handled, how contractors are engaged, how payments are authorised, and the insurance the Trust holds. Each policy names who is responsible for it.

Operational Policy Framework, version 1.0, October 2026.

The Framework is reviewed in full by the Board each October. The next review is October 2027. Anyone who works with the Trust can propose a change to it.

Financial accountability

As a registered charity we file annual returns with Charities Services. You can view our entry on the Charities Register.
