WCHT Submission on ‘National Environmental Standards for Granny Flats’
Submission on behalf of waiheke community
Alongside WCHT’s chunky, detailed submission on the NES-GF, we also submitted a petition on behalf of the Waiheke community. This was focused on the two most essential elements of our submission: making sure that any granny flats can be lived in (!) and enabling a more straightforward conversion process of existing Visitor Accommodation Units.

WCHT Submission on ‘making it easier to build granny flats’
WCHT supports the initiative to make building granny flats easier to increase affordable housing options but stresses that the proposals must explicitly allow for long-term residential use, rather than inadvertently favouring short-term visitor accommodation. We also strongly advocate for enabling the conversion of existing, suitable buildings (like visitor units) into granny flats as a rapid way to boost housing supply for residents.
